Monsters of all types haunt the streets of every town on Halloween night. Create a monster costume using items from the store and your own closet. Choose which monster you want to be and build the different parts of the costume from that idea. A classic monster that is both terrifying and easy to create at home is the zombie. 1
Decide which type of zombie to be and find the appropriate clothes for that monster. Use an old party dress for a zombie prom queen or a white lab coat and dress pants for a zombie doctor. Wear old shoes that you do not mind tearing and getting dirty. Search thrift stores and your closet for clothes that would create the character you want your zombie to be.
-
2
Use a pair of scissors to cut and tear the clothes for the costume. Tatter and fray the bottoms of pants and the cuffs of shirts. Slice the clothes in random spots all over to make them look realistically worn. Cut the toes off shoes or rip holes in the top of them; break one of the heels if you are wearing high heels.

3
Wipe fake blood all over the clothes. Concentrate on the chest area to make it look like blood ran off your chin while you feasted on a body. Place the blood on the cuffs of the shirt or wipe it in random spots all over a dress. Drip blood onto shoes.
-
4
Rub black, brown or gray eye shadow onto the clothes with a makeup brush or rag to make them look dirty. Take the clothes outside and roll them in the dirt if you do not mind being dirty; this will create the most authentic look.
-
5
Apply white face makeup all over the face and neck to create a pale, dead appearance. Dab greasepaint onto the face to give the greenish zombie tint. Create bruises in one or two areas of the face with green, yellow and purple greasepaint.
-
6
Apply fake blood all around the mouth to make it look like you just finished a meal. Add a line of blood dripping from each ear and a little blood dripping from one nostril.
-
7
Shave a small area on the face and moisturize with lotion. Apply one layer of liquid latex to the area with a brush, leaving a small gap in the middle for a tear, and place a frayed piece of single-ply toilet paper over the latex layer. Apply two more coats of liquid latex on the top of the toilet paper.
-
8
Shape the small tear in the latex with your fingers while it is somewhat, but not completely, dry. Add a layer of black greasepaint as a base in the tear, then apply fake blood, making it drip out of the wound. Rub the blood into the wound for the most realistic look, and add greasepaint in yellow, green and purple to the outside for a bruised effect.
-
9
Add shaping gel or pomade to hair for a messy, fresh-from-the-grave look. Spray gray hair paint onto hair to make it look dirty. Finish with hair spray to hold.

Tips & Warnings
If zombie makeup is too complicated, wear a zombie mask instead.
Dry liquid latex using a hair dryer on the lowest heat setting.
Rub baby oil on the liquid latex wound for easier removal.
Do not rub greasepaint into skin. It makes the skin look unnatural.
Liquid latex will rip hair off when your remove it, so shave the area first.
