Instructions

    • 1

Sand and paint wooden block letters. You will need the the bride's maiden initials, the groom's initials and the letter for the new last name of the couple. For example, if Jane Doe and Paul Smith are getting married, you will need the letters "J," "D," "P" and two of the letter "S." Paint the letters to match the color theme of the wedding.

Wrap coordinating satin ribbon around the top of each letter. For letters without a natural curve at the top, tie the ribbon to the two sides of the letter for hanging. Tie the loose ends into a bow. Create loops of varying lengths so the initials hang down in the proper order. For example, Jane Doe's initials would have a shorter loop for the "J" and a longer loop for the "D."

Cut felt into small squares, no larger than 1-inch square. Glue to the back of each initial letter as a way to protect the door as it is opened and closed. Hang initials on doors. Place the bride's initials as door knob hangers on her dressing room; the groom's go on the door knob to the room he is getting ready in; the last name initial for the new couple goes on a door knob in a common area such as a bathroom, coat room or entrance to the ceremony room.

Tips & Warnings

  • For the single initial letter, use a larger wooden letter to draw attention to the door knob hanger.

  • Do not forget to place felt on the backs of the door knob hangers to help prevent damage to the door in the event the wooden letters bang against the door repeatedly.
