How to Convert MUS to Sibelius

Save

Sibelius is music notation software that allows you to create new scores and import existing scores to edit. Using the SCORE file converter plug-in, you can convert scores that have a .mus extension for use with Sibelius. Users can find the plug-in on the Sibelius website and download it for free. Once you have installed the plug-in, you can convert a variety of file types in addition to .mus, including .tmp, .pag and .pge into .sib, the extension that is compatible with the Sibelius software.

Things You'll Need

  • Sibelius version 1.4 or later
  • Internet connection
  • Close Sibelius and download Sibelius SCORE File Converter from sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/html.pl?file=score.html. This is a free plug-in that can be used with Sibelius versions 1.4 or higher.

  • Copy or move the file to the "Plug-ins" folder under the "Sibelius" program on your computer once it has finished downloading.

  • Open Sibelius and click "Open" at the top of the screen.

  • Find the file you want to convert, which should end in a ".mus" extension, select it and click on "Open."

  • View the "Options" dialogue box that opens and change any settings you think are necessary. Click "OK."

  • Wait for the file to open; you might encounter a short delay as Sibelius converts it. An error message will display if Sibelius wasn't able to convert some elements of the .mus file. When the file opens, it will now have a .sib extension and be compatible with Sibelius.

Tips & Warnings

  • The SCORE converter has limitations and some types of music notation might not be supported or might appear slightly changed on the converted score.
