How to Install FooBar With Wine

Wine is a program for Linux that enables you to emulate software that is only available on the Windows operating system. Using Wine, you can install the foobar2000 music management software on your Linux computer. The Wine Headquarters website indicates that most of foobar2000 functions properly on Linux as of this publication. In particular, media management and playback controls are fully functional for the stable version of foobar2000.

  • Navigate to the foobar2000 homepage. Click "Download" and save the installation file for the latest stable release of foobar2000 to your computer.

  • Open your "Downloads" folder. Right-click the installation file and select "Properties." Select the "Permissions" tab and then click the check box beside "Allow executing file as program."

  • Right-click the installation file and select "Open with a Wine Application."

  • Click "Next" to begin the installation and then click "I Agree." Click the radio button beside "Standard Installation" and then click "Next." Click "Next" to install foobar2000 in the default directory and then click "Install." Installation will take a few moments and once installed, you can use foobar2000 to manage and play your music collection.
