How to Make a Flower Wreath Out of Fabric
A handmade fabric wreath gives a room an artsy, creative touch. While you can always splurge on your materials, you can make a relatively inexpensive wreath by using leftover fabric scraps and a foam base. Fashion a wreath for your own home, or give one to a friend or coworker as a thoughtful holiday, birthday or housewarming present. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Grosgrain ribbon
- Scissors
- 12-inch polystyrene wreath base
- Hot-glue gun
- Fabric
- Craft glue
- Flat-backed gems or beads

Cut 3 feet of 1-inch-wide ribbon with scissors; you can cut off any excess as needed. Choose grosgrain ribbon in a color that coordinates with the overall look of the wreath, such as red for a Valentine's Day wreath or orange for a Halloween wreath.

Apply a small about of hot glue to one end of the ribbon, and press it onto a 12-inch polystyrene wreath base. Being wrapping the ribbon around the base tightly, overlapping the edges as you go. Apply another dab of glue to the opposite end of the ribbon when you reach the end, and press the ribbon onto the base to secure it. Cover the entire wreath with ribbon.

Make a fabric flower, using a 1-by-24-inch strip of material. Fold the strip vertically and apply a thin line of craft glue down the center.

Roll the fabric strip up jelly roll-style to create a bloom shape. Glue a flat-backed bead or gem to the center of the flower as a decorative touch. Make enough fabric flowers to cover the entire perimeter of the wreath or just two or three to accent a small section.

Apply hot glue to the backs of the fabric flowers and press them onto the ribbon-wrapped wreath. Loop a matching grosgrain ribbon through the completed wreath for hanging purposes.
