Instructions

    • 1

Paint your wall using the first of the two colors you want for your checkered pattern. Roll the paint on, let it dry, then add another coat. The color you place first should be the color you want to be the secondary color of the checkered pattern. It will end up as the borders to the primary squares.

    • 2

Measure the placement of your squares and mark them with a light pencil mark to indicate where you will place painter's tape. Place painter's tape on the wall in line with your pencil markings, both horizontally and vertically. This protects the base color of the wall as you apply a second color.

    • 3

Apply the second paint color paint to your walls, filling in the squares created by your tape. Allow the paint to dry and go over it again. Ensure that the application of paint is even, so the squares are even when you remove the tape. Paint horizontally or vertically, but stay with the direction same direction throughout the process. Allow the wall to dry completely before you remove the tape.

    • 4

Remove the tape from the wall slowly to reveal the checkered pattern. Look for any lines that didn't come out even and touch them up with a brush if necessary.
