How to Make Blisters With Stage Makeup

Make realistic looking blisters with liquid latex.

If you are producing a TV show, movie or producing a play, you can get stage makeup to simulate wounds and other injuries. Stage makeup allows artists to recreate blood, puss and blisters for the stage and movies. You can use blobs of petroleum jelly as blisters, but these are easily smudged and not very realistic. The best way to make blisters is by using liquid latex. You can get liquid latex from a stage makeup supplier.

Things You'll Need

• Liquid latex
• Sponge wedge

Instructions

1. Shake the liquid latex bottle for 30 seconds.

2. Pour some liquid latex onto the sponge wedge. Dab the wedge onto the area where you want the blisters to be. Leave to dry.

3. Dab more liquid latex over the first coat and leave to dry. You can make the blister with two layers or add a third for thicker blister skin.

4. Pinch the center of the latex skin gently between your thumb and forefinger and pull it up. Work carefully so as not to rupture the liquid latex.

5. Pull the latex up in the middle until the center creates an air pocket. Keep pulling until the blister is as big as you want it to be.

Tips & Warnings

• If you want the blister to look popped. Pull the latex up in the middle and then cut it with a scissors. Roll the edges of the latex back and it will stick to itself. You can apply some petroleum jelly to the center of the blister.
