How to Hook Up a Brother 2170w Wirelessly
The Brother 2170w supports wireless networking, so you don't need to physically connect the printer to a router or a computer. The wireless networking setup allows you to place the printer in a convenient location to all computers in the house. The wireless setup process runs from the Brother installation disc that comes with the printer. You need a temporary connection to a computer on the network.

Plug your Brother 2170w into an electrical outlet and press the "Power" button on the unit.

Insert the Ethernet cable into the network port on the back of the printer. Insert the other end of the cable into the computer. Insert the installation disc into the computer.

Click "Install Printer Driver" once the auto-run program launches. Click the "Wireless Network Users" option from the menu. Click "Wireless Setup and Driver Install (Recommended)." Click "Next." Click "Next" a second time.

Select the "With Cable (Recommended)" option and click "Next" twice. Select the Brother 2170w from the printer list. Click "Next."

Select your wireless network from the list provided. Click "Next" twice. Select the type of wireless security that your network uses. Input the password for the network twice. Click "Next." Click "Next" again to finalize the wireless setup. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your printer.
