How to Applique a Shirt With a Monogramming Machine

Each monogram machine is different in this regard. This is due to the type of stitches it is capable of producing. Study the machine instructions before beginning the project. Instructions

    • 1

Turn over fabric scraps for the applique so the back of the fabric is facing up on an ironing board.

    • 2

Cut a piece of paper-backed fusible webbing slightly smaller than the scrap of fabric. Center and place the fusible webbing on the fabric scraps so the paper side is up.

    • 3

Iron the fusible webbing in place with an iron set to cotton heat. Hold the iron in place for 15 seconds. Move the iron to a new location on the fusible webbing and repeat the process until it is completely bonded.

    • 4

Trace the applique pattern on the paper backing.

    • 5

Cut the applique pieces from the fabric scraps.

    • 6

Remove the paper backing from the applique pieces. Position the first applique piece on the desired fabric or piece of clothing. Iron into place.

    • 7

Center the applique within the monogram machine embroidery hoop. Tighten the hoop and attach it to the monogram machine.

    • 8

Set the monogram machine to a satin stitch and free-hand stitching. Sew around the outside edge of the applique.

    • 9

Remove the fabric from the embroidery hoop. Position the second piece of the applique and iron into place. Repeat Steps 7 and 8 to attach the second piece. Continue Steps 7 through 9 until all applique pieces are attached to the desired piece of fabric or article of clothing.
