Instructions

    • 1

Put on your jeans. Stand in front of a mirror and envision where you want to place the rips in the jeans. Mark the areas for the rips using a pen.

    • 2

Take off the jeans. Lay them flat on a work table. Cut small slits in the areas you have designated for the rips using a pair of scissors. Use small cuts as the tears will get larger throughout the ripping process.

    • 3

Scrub the area surrounding the cuts with a cheese grater or sandpaper. This will thin the jeans and expose the denim strings. Continue rubbing the areas around the cut until you are satisfied with the look. Cut the hole again using scissors, if necessary to make the rip larger.

    • 4

Wash and dry your jeans. This helps stretch the tear into the size it will remain. The drying process may fray your jeans a little more. Keep this mind, before washing and drying them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add a little bleach to the washing machine for a retro, bleached design.
