Wrinkle-free curtains enhance a home's decor.

Polyester curtains wear well and retain a crisp shape without starching or ironing. Some polyester curtains offer extra insulation or room-darkening abilities. But the durable material that makes polyester a good choice for curtains can also result in wrinkles or creases if you leave the curtains folded in a closet or storage chest. Ironing isn't always an option, since some polyester won't withstand the heat of the iron. You'll have to find other ways to remove the creases from your polyester curtains. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put the curtains in the dryer. Toss in the wet washcloth. Tumble dry on low heat for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from the dryer immediately.

    • 2

Let the curtain hang on the rod overnight. Sometimes the weight of the curtains is enough to pull out the wrinkles from polyester.

    • 3

Turn a blow dryer on high heat and aim the dryer at the wrinkled area of the curtain. As the fabric heats, smooth out the wrinkles with your hands. Do not hold the dryer too close to the curtain, or direct the heat in one spot for more than a few seconds at a time, as some types of polyester could melt.

    • 4

Steam out the wrinkles with a hand-held steamer. Hold the steam nozzle over the wrinkled area. With your free hand, tug gently on the fabric to straighten and smooth it. Work slowly, working from the top of the curtain down toward the floor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always read the manufacturer's care label before you begin any wrinkle treatment. This will tell you if it's safe to put your curtains in the dryer or to use a steamer.
