How to Fold Creased Jeans in Drawers

Creased jeans are an authentic western fashion and are especially popular in Texas. An outfit of creased jeans, boots, a tuxedo tie and a tuxedo jacket is referred to as “The Texas Tux.” However, once a crease is ironed into jeans, it can be difficult to maintain. If you simply hang your creased jeans on a hanger or fold the jeans the wrong way, the crease will diminish. Fold your jeans properly, however, and the crease will remain crisp no matter how long the jeans sit in a drawer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your jeans in hot water and dry them on the highest heat setting. This will cause the jeans to shrink a bit and make the ironing process more effective. Remove the jeans from the dryer before they are completely dried; the crease will become more permanent if you iron the jeans while they are still wet.

    • 2

Zip up the fly of the jeans, secure all buttons and place the jeans on an ironing board. Fold the jeans so that the outer seam is in the exact middle and face up. Adjust the jeans until the intended crease will be centered over the knee of the jeans.

    • 3

Fill the water compartment of the iron with starch or water, based on your preference. Glide the iron down the length of the crease of the jeans. Apply the iron with firm pressure until the crease is set.

    • 4

Fold one leg of the jeans so that the crease forms the outer edge of the fold. Repeat this process on the other leg and place one side on top of the other so that the back pockets are even on both sides. The zipper and fly of the jeans should be folded between the two legs and the side seam should be in the center of the fold.

    • 5

Fold the top half of the jeans down horizontally until the waist meets the bottom cuff. Fold the top half down again to meet the bottom cuff so that the folded jeans form a square. By folding this way, your jeans will fit neatly in a drawer — and reinforce the crease.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to keep with traditional Texas style, only wear your creased jeans with cowboy boots.

  • If you repeat the ironing process each time after washing, your jeans will maintain a permanent crease.
