Decorate the paper. Use a piece of rectangular red paper, at least 12-by-18-inches long. Draw moons, stars, and other designs across one side of the paper. Cut the designs out with the scissors.

2
Roll the paper so that the two 12-inch edges meet. Overlap one edge over the other for about 1/2 an inch. Glue the overlapping edge down to the paper underneath it, creating a tube shape.

Tie yarn to the top of the tube. Punch four holes an equal distance from each other around one end of the tube, and about 1/2 an inch from the edge. Cut four pieces of yarn, each 12 inches long. Tie each piece of string to a hole and then tie them all together at the top. This will give you a way to carry or hang the lantern.

Tips & Warnings
You can also decorate your lantern with glitter, stickers or paint if you want it to be fancier.
Be careful when cutting out the moon and star designs in the paper. You will have to punch a tip of the scissors through to start cutting and you don't want to accidentally stab or cut yourself.
