How to Best Dress My Toddler in Hot Weather

Choose your toddler's clothes carefully in hot weather.

While snowsuits and boots are acceptable for toddlers to wear in the winter, they will need a different wardrobe in the summer months. Just like adults, toddlers want to feel comfortable in hot weather. Whether you take your toddler to an outdoor picnic or on a walk around your neighborhood, pick the right clothes for him to ensure his safety and comfort.

Instructions

1. Put a light-colored T-shirt that is made out of cotton material on your toddler. Avoid dark colors, as they trap heat.

2. Put a wide-brimmed hat on your toddler's head to help shield her face from the sun's rays.

3. Put light-colored shorts on your toddler that are loose-fitting.

4. Dress your female toddler in a loose sundress so the air will circulate around her body.

5. Put a pair of sandals with Velcro straps on your toddler's feet to keep them from sweating in hot weather.

Tips & Warnings

• Use sunscreen to protect your toddler's skin from getting sunburned. Put the sunscreen on 20 minutes before you take him outside.

• Do not leave your toddler in the car because cars trap heat.
