How To Make an Origami Teacup

How To Make an Origami Teacup thumbnail
Drink your next cup of tea out of a homemade origami cup.

Origami is the art of folding paper into unique designs and shapes. Some origami projects can have a functional use. If you are short a teacup at your next tea party, simply craft one out of a square of paper. Use parchment paper rather than origami paper if you want it to actually hold tea, or simply enjoy impressing your friends with the simple elegant design of a paper tea cup.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold one square of paper in half. Crease along the fold and reopen the paper to its original position.

    • 2

Fold in one side of the square running parallel to the center crease until the edge of the paper meets the center crease. Repeat this step with the opposite edge. You should now have a rectangle.

    • 3

Fold up the bottom two corners of the rectangle to meet the center crease. The paper should now resemble an arrow pointing downward. Fold up the "V" of the arrow to make a smaller rectangle. Flip the paper over.

    • 4

Fold the bottom corners of the rectangle up to meet the center crease. Flip the paper over again. There should be a small diamond shape at the point of the "V" of your arrow-shaped paper.

    • 5

Locate the small slit running down the center of the diamond. Carefully pull at the two edges of paper that meet to form this slit, opening it like a pocket. Flatten the pocket to form the base of your tea cup. Open the main portion of the cup and enjoy.
