Set up facial recognition to automatically sign in on Kinect.

The Kinect, a motion controller developed by Microsoft for the Xbox 360, requires a whole new set of commands and gestures to control the console, which can confuse those uninitiated to the sensor. For instance, signing multiple people in to their accounts works much differently than using multiple controllers. Upon signing in, the Kinect scans your face, allowing the system to recognize each person.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Xbox 360 and wait for the Kinect to finish booting. A black and gray image appears at the bottom right after the Kinect finishes booting.

    • 2

Stand in view of the sensor and wave either arm until the Kinect recognizes you. The Kinect Hub opens.

    • 3

Hold your hand over "Sign In." A list of your Xbox 360's accounts appears.

    • 4

Hold your hand over the account you wish to sign in to. The Kinect scans your face and signs you in to that account. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for additional users.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to take control of the Kinect while multiple people are signed in, wave your hand. A "Welcome Back" message appears at the bottom right corner of the screen with your account name, indicating you have control of the Kinect.

  • You can also allow the Kinect to automatically sign you in by setting up facial recognition. Sign in to your account, open the Kinect Hub and choose "Kinect ID." Follow the prompts to finish setting up facial recognition.
