How to Set Up GMX as an IMAP in Outlook for a Mac

With the release of the Microsoft Office 2011 software suite, Microsoft made the Outlook program available for Mac users for the first time. With Outlook for Mac, you can configure and connect to any email account that uses the POP, IMAP or Exchange mail protocols. GMX is an email provider with an IMAP server, so you can set up a GMX account in Outlook for Mac and then use it to send and receive messages.

Things You'll Need

  • Mac running OS X 10.5 or later
  • Outlook 2011 for Mac
  • Click on the "Outlook" icon in the Dock at the bottom of your Mac's desktop.

  • Click on the "Email Account" option in the pop-up window that appears.

  • Enter your GMX email address, username and password in the appropriate fields.

  • Set the "Type" field to the "IMAP" option.

  • Enter "imap.gmx.com" in the "Incoming server" field.

  • Enter "mail.gmx.com" in the "Outgoing server" field.

  • Press the "More Options" button.

  • Open the "Authentication" menu and choose "Use Incoming Server Info."

  • Press "OK" and "Add Account" to finish setting up your GMX account in Outlook.
