How to Recover the Password for a Dynex Enhanced Wireless G Router

Your Dynex enhanced wireless-G router uses a security password to hide the router's Settings menu and a second password to prevent unauthorized users from connecting to your network. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to retrieve these passwords if you’ve forgotten them; but the router does support a recovery method for clearing the passwords and then choosing new ones. Restore the router to its default settings by using the “Reset” button on the back of the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Dynex wireless router around so you can easily access the ports on the back of the device. Locate the small reset hole near the bottom edge of the router and to the left of the power cable.

    • 2

Insert the tip of a straightened paper clip into the hole until it presses against the internal reset button. Depress and hold the paper clip for 10 seconds and then remove it from the hole. Wait for all of the lights on the router to flash, which indicates the router has been reset. Repeat this procedure if the lights don't flash.

    • 3

Open a Web browser and type "192.168.2.1" in the address bar. Press the "Enter" key to access the router's menu screen. Click the "Security" tab on the left side of the window.

    • 4

Leave the Password field blank and click the "Submit" button. Open the "Security Type" drop-down menu and choose the type of security encryption you want to use, such as "WPA2-PSK."

    • 5

Click "Apply Changes" and then click inside the "Security Key" text box. Type the new password you want to use and click "Apply Changes."

    • 6

Navigate to the "System Settings" tab at the lower-left corner of the window. Scroll down to the "Type in New Password" box. Type the password you want to use to access the router's menu. Type the password again in the "Confirm New Password" box and click "Apply Changes."

Tips & Warnings

  • After recovering the password, you must change the password on any computers that use an Internet connection through the router. Click the network connection icon in the taskbar in the lower right corner of the computer’s desktop. Click the name of your network and type the new password in the text box. Click "Connect." Repeat for any other computer that connects to the router.
