How to Install a Jib Hoist Base
Jib cranes are used in indoor and outdoor construction to lift and move materials weighing between 500 and 10,000 pounds, depending on the size of the crane. When heavy materials are lifted, you want to ensure your jib crane remains seated on the floor or ground. Installing a jib hoist base to hold the crane in place is the solution. The column assembly of the jib crane is bolted to a concrete base with embedded anchor bolts. If installed properly, the crane will still turn in a 360-degree rotation. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 5-pound bag concrete
- Rebar
- L-shaped anchor bolts
- Machinery grout
- Jam nuts
- Wrench
- Double nuts
- Lubricating oil
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay out the rebar and the L-shaped anchor bolts per the manufacturer’s instructions before pouring the concrete.
-
2
Mix a 5-pound bag of concrete with water per the directions on the concrete label. Pour the concrete over the rebar and L-shaped anchor bolts, and allow the concrete to set for the amount of time the concrete manufacturer suggests, usually 24 hours.
-
-
3
Use jam nuts and machinery grout to level the surface of the concrete per the manufacturer's instructions.
-
4
Mount the column assembly onto the concrete base. Use a wrench to tighten the double nuts onto the anchor bolts after verifying that the column is level.
-
5
Attach the top pivot bearing cone above the pin at the top portion of the column. Join the head assembly with the boom assembly using the manufacturer’s provided hardware, and set them on the column.
-
6
Bring the boom into a horizontal position by adjusting the lower roller assembly situated in the head area.
-
7
Lubricate the top bearing and lower roller assembly with lubricating oil.
-
8
Attach the trolley end stops to the boom per the manufacturer’s instructions.
