How to Disconnect the Paddle for a KitchenAid Mixer
The Kitchenaid mixer has a powerful motor, so it has to have a secure method for keeping the paddle on the spindle during the mixing process. Undoing the lock and removing the paddle is a matter of knowing how to manipulate the attached accessory. Does this Spark an idea?

3
Tilt the machine head up, letting it rest open. This puts the paddle within easy reach. Remove the bowl if it is in the way.

Grasp the paddle with one hand. Push the paddle upward on the spindle toward the body of the mixer. This compresses the springs on the spindle, allowing the paddle to move upward.

Turn the paddle to the right as far as it will go. This is a matter of only about a 1/2 inch. Pull down on the paddle to slide it off the spindle.

Tips & Warnings
If you haven't cleaned your spindle in a long time, the paddle may be sticking. Wiggle it until it slides off, then scrub the spindle with a plastic scrub pad until you see the bare stainless steel.
