How to Duplicate Slides in PowerPoint

You can duplicate or slightly alter slides from one PowerPoint presentation to use in the same or another PowerPoint presentation. PowerPoint 98/2000 provides three ways for you to duplicate a slide and use it again. You must be in Slide Sorter view to duplicate slides.

Things You'll Need:

    Drag to Copy a Slide

  1. Step 1

    Hold down the Control key (Windows) or the Option key (Macintosh).

  2. Step 2

    Drag the slide into the position you want it in the presentation and let go of the mouse button. A copy of the slide appears at the new position.

  3. Step 3

    Go to the View menu and select Slide view to return to the presentation.

  4. Use the Duplicate Command

  5. Step 1

    Select the slide you want to duplicate by clicking it.

  6. Step 2

    Go to the Edit menu and select Duplicate, then drag the duplicate slide - which appears to the right of the original slide - into position in the presentation.

  7. Step 3

    Go to the View menu and select Slide view to return to the presentation.

  8. Copy a Slide and Paste It

  9. Step 1

    Select the slide you want to copy and paste by clicking it.

  10. Step 2

    Open the Edit menu and choose Copy.

  11. Step 3

    Click again, this time in the position in the presentation (or in a new presentation) where you want to paste the slide; a cursor appears.

  12. Step 4

    Go to the Edit menu and select Paste, then go to the View menu and select Slide view to return to the presentation.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also drag a slide from one presentation to another. Remember to hold down the Control or Option keys, depending on your computer's operating system.
