How to Create a Collage on a Tabletop

A tabletop collage offers lasting memories through the pictures and images you use to make the collage. The process, though, isn't as simple as lining up the pictures and laying a piece of glass over them. If you want your collage to last for years to come, take the time to arrange your images and then permanently secure them under a layer of a resin finish.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange your collage on a piece of poster board equal to the size of the table, or to the desired size of your collage if smaller than the table.

    • 2

Glue each photo or image to the poster board with a glue stick. Allow to dry overnight.

    • 3

Laminate the entire poster board.. A library, sign shop or office supply store usually offers this service. The lamination keeps the epoxy from ruining your collage.

    • 4

Apply the first coat of epoxy to the table, called the seal coat. Use a brush to spread the epoxy and seal any pours.

    • 5

Pour the second coat of epoxy onto the table. Spread with a squeegee. The coat should be about one-eighth of an inch thick. Allow to dry for six hours.

    • 6

Arrange the poster board on the table exactly as you want it. Once you've poured the next layer of epoxy, you won't be able to move the collage.

    • 7

Pour the third layer of epoxy onto the table. Spread with a squeegee. The coat should be about one-eight of an inch thick. Allow to dry for 24 hours before use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Perform the epoxy and drying process in a room between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Add a fifth coat to create more resin between the collage and top of the table. Apply four to eight hours after the fourth coat, then allow the fifth coat to dry 24 hours before use.
