How to Get to the Motor in a Kenmore 800

Kenmore 800 series washing machines are top-loading appliances. The 800 series washer relies on a direct-drive transmission, rather than a belt-driven unit. In a direct-drive washer, a coupling connects the rear of the motor to the drive shaft, which operates the washer. The motor is located below the wash tub, behind the water pump.       Unplug the washing machine from the wall outlet prior to servicing.

      Pull the two plastic end caps off the left and right sides of the front of the control panel. To remove, grasp the end caps by the top and pull toward you.

      Remove the screws that were previously hidden by the end caps, located on the bottom left and right sides of the front of the control panel. Rotate the control panel up 180 degrees.

      Disconnect the lid-switch wire connector.

      Release the two spring clips at the top-rear portion of the cabinet using a flat-head screwdriver.

      Tilt the cabinet toward you, and then pull it away from the washer. Lift the cabinet and set it aside.

      Release the two clips securing the pump to the front of the motor using a flat-head screwdriver.

      Grasp the pump with both hands, one on each side, and then rock it back and forth until it releases from the front of the motor. Move the pump aside to expose the washer's motor.
