How to Do a Fold Out Board for an Expository Speech

Some people dread public speaking, but it is actually a very important skill to have. Many high schools and some colleges require students to take a speech class. A popular speech style you may encounter in your classes is the expository speech. The purpose of an expository speech is to present information to a group of people on a certain topic -- to teach, persuade or inform. To help illustrate your speech, create a foldout display board with pictures and information on the topic.

Instructions

    • 1

Split your expository speech topic into three subtopics or three major themes. Create headings for each of the subtopics and print on paper.

    • 2

Gather articles, charts or graphs, and pictures that will help illustrate your speech topic. Print the information and pictures, and glue them to pieces of construction paper. Trim the paper so the pictures have a 1-inch border.

    • 3

Apply double-sided tape to the back of the construction paper and headers.

    • 4

Place one header on each section of the board.

    • 5

Organize the information and pictures before sticking them on the board under the appropriate heading.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place books over the glued paper while it is drying to prevent curling.

  • Use large fonts and pictures so your audience can easily see the information on the board.
