1
Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner tailored to your hair type. Towel-dry the hair by blotting or squeezing out the moisture. If you do not have time to wash your hair then spray the hair down with water until the hair is damp.

2
Squeeze a quarter-size amount of styling gel into the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together and smooth the gel onto your hair. Open your hands and run your hands, fingers first, through your locks. As you run the finger and palm through the hair, push it back into a slick style. Do not rub the gel into the roots of your hair. This will be the foundation for your slicked-back style.

Wipe the gel off of your hands. Place a diffuser onto the end of a hairdryer and set the heat to medium. Use your nondominant hand to hold the hairdryer above your hair and your dominant hand to brush your hair into the slick position. Work around your entire head until the hair is dry.

Apply a silicone-based shine serum to your hands. Using the same method as the styling gel, run your hands through your tresses with the serum. The silicone will weigh the hair back and add shine.

Coat the hair lightly with a medium-hold hairspray.

Tips & Warnings
Always dry hair before leaving the house. Slicking hair back with gel only and not drying the hair will leave your tresses feeling crunchy.
Use bobby pins to hold in hair that is too short to stay in place.
