Inexpensively and attractively divide a room with a tension rod.

Using a curtain is a cost-effective and attractive way to define a space. If you don't want to create a permanent fixture, rather than drilling brackets into the walls, use a tension rod as a means of supporting the room-dividing curtain. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance from one wall to another. Purchase a shower curtain tension rod that is just a bit longer than the distance from one wall to another. The longest shower curtain spring tension rod is typically 8- to 10-feet long.

    • 2

Adjust the length of the tension rod by twisting the large part of the rod and twisting it in a clockwise fashion. Twist the rod until it is slightly larger than the distance between the two walls you intend to hang it from.

    • 3

Hang the curtain you are using to divide the room on the tension rod.

    • 4

Hold each end of the rod in each of your hands. Gently press both ends toward the center of the rod. The tension spring in the center of the rod will push inward, shortening the rod.

    • 5

Place the rod between the two walls while still pressing the ends of the rod together. Once the rod is positioned in the location you want it, release it. The tension wire in the center of the rod will retract, allowing the rod to hang between the two walls.
