1
Pin adhesive backed stabilizer paper onto the backing fabric for the appliqué. Score the center of the paper with a needle and remove the backing. Cut out the fabric with scissors in the shape of a square.
-
2
Select the area for the appliqué on the fabric piece of the item you are creating. Position the appliqué backing fabric square on the area of the fabric where you will sew it. Use a chalk marker to trace an outline for the square on the fabric.

3
Turn on your Singer Futura machine. Open the Futura software program. Explore the selection of AutoPunch appliqué designs. Look for an appliqué design that will complement the item you are sewing. Give a name to the design, such as “Appliqué 1” and save it in your AutoPunch software system.
-
4
Thread the machine with a thread color for the outline of the appliqué. Choose a color that will work well with your design and complement the main color scheme.
-
5
Place the large hoop with the stabilizer onto the machine sewing base. Center the pattern for the appliqué by using the “CENTER” function for the AutoPunch software. Type a small period in the “TEXT” box and apply the stitches.
-
6
Use the period to locate the center area of the hoop for the saved appliqué pattern. Place the adhesive stabilizer on the machine and then place the fabric on top of the stabilizer. Insert the sewing machine needle in the center of the “X” and “Y” lines on the AutoPunch software screen. Smooth out the fabric and press it firmly into place.
-
7
Transmit your saved appliqué pattern from the AutoPunch software to your sewing machine. Place the appliqué fabric on the hooped fabric for the object you are sewing. Sew the first block as directed on the AutoPunch software.
-
8
Remove the hoop from the machine, but leave the fabric and stabilizer attached to each other. Trim away excess fabric from the appliqué outline.
-
9
Change thread colors if your design calls for it at this time. Put the hoop back onto the machine and transmit the second block from the AutoPunch program. Continue to change thread colors, as your design requires. Repeat the appliqué sewing block process for each design block until your AutoPunch appliqué design is completed.
