How to Figure Angle Between Walls

Measure the corner angles to fit crown molding.

Before taking on an expensive home project like crown molding, it is important to measure out the materials you need to fit the room. Not every set of walls intersect at a perfect 90 degrees. Rooms with architectural embellishments may add character, but a unique wall layout requires precise calculation to correctly align molding across the entire room, corners included. Hand measurements and guessing won’t work for a job like this; use an angle measurement tool to determine the corner angle between two walls.

Things You'll Need

• Angle measurement tool

Instructions

1. Find a spot on two intersecting walls where the wall is flat and clean.

2. Place the angle measurement tool in the corner between the two walls.

3. Extend the protractor so that the two protractor sides fit flat against the two walls.

4. Read the angle measurement listed on the tool while it is angled in the corner. If the tool is digital, press the angle reading button to display the corner angle.
