Troubleshoot your HB-B101 if bread isn't turning out properly.

Your Hitachi HB-B101 Home Bakery lets you make fresh loaves of bread and dough for pizza or desserts. Most of the time, the Home Bakery works as expected. Sometimes, though, it makes a loaf of bread that just doesn't taste or look right. Other times, the Home Bakery may not work at all. Often, troubleshooting the Home Bakery yourself fixes the problem so you can get back to making the perfect loaf of bread. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the digital oven display. If the display reads "L," it means the temperature of the machine is too cold to operate. If you see "H," the temperature is too hot. When the temperature is between 14 degrees and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, press "Start" to turn the machine on.

    • 2

Remove the bread pan from the Home Bakery if you see "E" on the display. The bread pan isn't securely in place. Press it back down until it clicks. Close the lid and then press "Start."

    • 3

Take the bread out of the pan as soon as it finishes baking to avoid bread with collapsed sides and a wet center.

    • 4

Open the Home Bakery lid if smoke is coming out of the vents. You may have spilled ingredients on the heating area. Wipe up any spills before proceeding.

    • 5

Push the mixing blade onto the shaft at the bottom of the Home Bakery if your bread comes out with flour on the top.

    • 6

Look at the recipe to ensure you used the correct amount of ingredients if your bread looks misshapen. For example, if you use too much flour, the bread's top will look inflated. Without enough flour, the loaf is too short. If this happens, carefully measure your ingredients and try again.

    • 7

Select the "Light" or "Medium" crust setting if your bread comes out too dark. Use "Dark" only if you want a brown, crispy crust.

    • 8

Wait for the bread to cool completely before you cut it. If you cut it as soon as baking ends, the bread may slice unevenly or be sticky.

    • 9

Use only bread flour, not self-rising or whole wheat flour, if your loaf comes out too short.

    • 10

Start a new loaf if you accidentally turned the Home Bakery off during the baking process. There's no way to resume progress on a half-finished loaf. You must also restart if you experienced a power outage or if you left the lid open while the loaf baked.
