How to Wire an LED Light Bar on a Truck

Install a LED light bar onto the tailgate of your truck to add stylish extra backup lights to your vehicle. LEDs are brighter than traditional auto lights and require less power to run. Often, truck LED light bars come with trailer hitch attachments, which means that they simply plug into the wiring connector that is used to connect your vehicle's lights to a trailer's lights. Mount the LED light bar onto your truck and plug the wires in to install your own backup safety lights.

Locate the flat trailer connector underneath the truck, near the trailer hitch. It will be connected to four wires. Insert the plastic end of the LED wire connector into the flat trailer connector. Use plastic zip ties to secure the LED wires onto the bottom of the truck, near the flat trailer connector.
