How to Decorate a Kid Friendly Pirate Room

A treasure chest makes handy storage.

If your child loves pirates, decorate his room in a way that reflects his interests. A pirate decor theme will give your child's room a colorful, whimsical touch. Encourage him to use his creativity and imagination by letting him help you decorate the room. For inspiration, watch a pirate-inspired movie or read a pirate-themed book before decorating. Use a mix of handmade and store-bought decor items to create a customized look.

Instructions

1. Paint the bedroom walls deep turquoise blue to resemble ocean water. Use stencils and paint to create a pirate ship, waves and cloud shapes on one wall, which will become the room's focal point.

2. Decorate the child's bed with a dark blue comforter featuring white and gold pirate, ship, ship wheel and skull and cross-bone designs. Set a plush rug in the shape of a wooden ship's wheel on the floor beside the bed.

3. Place a wooden treasure chest featuring gold lock and key details on the floor at the end of the bed. Use the chest for storing the child's toys, games or extra clothing and shoes.

4. Place a lamp featuring a treasure chest-shaped base and a shade with skull and cross-bone designs on the night stand or work desk. Install skull-shaped sconces above the bed for nighttime reading.

5. Hang a wooden clock in the shape of a ship's wheel on the wall. Install skull and cross-bone, pirate- and ship-shaped hooks on the wall for hanging robes and jackets.
