How to Regrow a Stalk of Dracaena Massangeana
Dracaena Massangeana makes an ideal houseplant. It can tolerate bright light and dim areas and it thrives in the year-round warm temperatures found indoors. The plant, Dracaena fragrans "Massangeana," goes by the common name of corn plant. The long narrow leaves grow 3 feet long and 4 inches wide, resembling the leaves of a true corn plant. - Pruning shears
- 2- to 4-inch pots
- Bucket
- Sand
- Plastic bag
- Rubber band
- 4- to 6-inch pots
- Potting soil

Cut a section of a Dracaena Massangeana stalk into sections 3 to 4 inches long. Make the bottom cut at a 45 degree angle and the top cut horizontal to help keep track of which end is up.

Mix clean coarse sand in a bucket with water until it is damp and crumbly when you handle it.

Fill 2- to 4-inch pots with the damp sand. Smooth off the top with your finger but don't pack down the sand.

Slide one Dracaena Massangeana cutting into the pot so that half is below the sand and half is above the sand.

Cover the top of the pot with a clear plastic bag and secure it around the base of the pot with a rubber band. This keeps the immediate environment around the cutting humid to increase rooting success.

Keep the Dracaena Massangeana cutting in a spot where the temperature remains between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remove the plastic bag every two to three days and mist the cutting with water. Condensation should be visible on the inside of the bag throughout the rooting process.

Pull off the plastic bag after four to six weeks and give the Dracaena Massangeana cutting a light tug. If it resists, rooting success has been achieved.

Transplant the cutting into a 4- to 6-inch pot. Use a commercial potting soil designed to drain well. Keep the cutting indoors in filtered light with a temperature of 75 F or above during the day and up to 10 degrees cooler at night.
