How to Make a Large Slab of Clay

Creating a slab to hand build a clay project is simple when a slab roller is available. A slab roller is adjusted to create the thickness of the slab desired. But, how do you make a large slab when a slab roller is not available. The answer is use two yardsticks and a piece of pipe. The process is more time consuming than using a slab roller, but the end result is the same. Create small to large slabs of clay using the same process. Just move the yardsticks farther apart to make large slabs.

    • 4

Press the clay with your hands to create a flat disk approximately 1-inch thick.
