How to Make Glowy Text in GIMP thumbnail
You can digitally re-create the look of lit-up text with GIMP's Logo Creator.

Use GIMP's logo creation tool to produce text that glows. GIMP is a free graphics design program and has a variety of word art styles to choose from. The application's Glowing Hot style produces bright, beaming text in front of a solid background, creating a powerful visual contrast. Customize the logo's settings to make your text glow in the font and pixel size of your choice.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch GIMP and click "File" and "Create." Click on "Logos" and then "Glowing Hot" to load the accompanying settings dialog.

    • 2

Type the alphanumeric characters you want displayed into the text field. Everything you enter will appear on the same line of text.

    • 3

Click on the up or down arrow next to Font Size to, respectively, increase or decrease the number of pixels in your text. Click on the Font icon to select a font from GIMP's options and then click "Close." In the settings dialog, select "OK" when finished.

    • 4

Save your glowing text by clicking on "File" and "Save As." Save the text as a GIMP workbook by using the file extension XCF, or save the file as a picture by using an extension such as JPG or PNG.

Tips & Warnings

  • For other digital projects, use the Logo Creator's additional word art effects such as Chalk, Chrome or Frosty.
