Make a friendship bracelet to show your best friend you care.

Tell your friends you love them by making them friendship bracelets. This inexpensive craft project is made from embroidery floss, widely available in craft, dollar and chain stores. If you can tie a knot and braid, you can make a friendship bracelet. The bracelets are waterproof, so your friends can wear them swimming or in the shower. Friendship bracelets are an ideal project for long trips, since you can attach the end of the bracelet to your jeans and knot away.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut three 60-inch strands of embroidery floss in three different colors. Measure the strands with a measuring tape and cut them with scissors.

    • 2

Hold the three strands together and fold them in half. Tie all the strands together in an overhand knot 1 inch below the fold.

    • 3

Stick the straight end of a safety pin through the knot. Pin it to your jeans or a pillow.

    • 4

Fan the six strands out from the knot so the colors alternate. For example, if your colors are red, yellow and blue, the strands from left to right should be red, yellow, blue, red, yellow and blue. The strands are numbered 1 through 6, from left to right.

    • 5

Lay strand 1 over strand 2 and bring it around behind strand 2. Pull strand 1 through the top of the loop you created. Pull strand 1 and strand 2 tight to slide the knot up to the top, just under the overhand knot. The knot you just created is called a forward knot.

    • 6

Tie strand 1 over strands 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in forward knots. Strand 1 will now be on the far right, and strand 2 will be in the strand 1 position.

    • 7

      Tie strand 2 in forward knots around strands 3, 4, 5, 6 and 1.

    • 8

Continue with each color, tying it around every other strand in a forward knot, until the bracelet wraps around your wrist.

    • 9

Divide the six strands into two sections of three strands. Braid each strand until you are one-quarter inch from the end. Close off each braid with an overhand knot.

    • 10

Tie on the bracelet by pulling one of the braids through the initial loop and tying the two braids together in a knot or bow.
