Fixing Bookcase Shelves That Sag
A bookcase provides highly visible and accessible storage. However, a sagging shelf makes the entire piece of furniture look messy and flimsy. You do not have to tear out and replace the shelf, nor install an ugly L-bracket to lend some additional support. Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Plywood, 3/4-inch thick
- Old book jacket
- Scissors
- Adhesive spray

Locate a shelf on the bookcase that does not sag. Measure the height between the bottom of this shelf and the top of the shelf below it. Write down this measurement.

Measure the depth of this shelf. Write it down.

Visit a lumberyard and purchase a piece of plywood that is 3/4 inches thick and the height and depth you wrote down.

Wrap an old book jacket around the piece of plywood and cut it down to size so that it covers the wood perfectly.

Remove the book jacket and cover the plywood with adhesive spray. Place the book jacket around the wood and press it in place.

Slide the book-jacket covered plywood directly beneath the shelf that is sagging.
