How to Make Yo-Yo Quilts
Yo-yo making is a fun craft to learn at any age. What makes yo-yos a treat is finding interesting ways to use these little rounds in craft and sewing projects. Yo-yo quilts are a colorful project to create with yo-yos that can enhance any room but also create a family keepsake.

Place the CD on the card stock and use the pencil to trace around the CD to create a circle. Remove the CD and cut out the circle from the card stock with scissors.

Prewash and iron your fabric before use.

Place the card stock circle onto the wrong side of the fabric and trace around the circle. Cut out the circle from the fabric with scissors.

Thread your needle and tie a double knot at the end of the thread.

Place the fabric circle wrong side facing up. Fold over the edge of the circle.

Place your needle through the folded edge and pull. Use a running stitch to go around the circle while folding down the fabric edge as you work.

Pull the thread tightly to bring in the edges of the circle together. Tie off the thread with a double knot to keep the gathered edges in places and cut the thread. Flatten the circle with the gathered opening in the center.

Repeat steps 2 thru 7 until you have the desired number of yo-yos for your quilt.

Place two yo-yos with the gathered opening facing up, side by side. Take your needle and thread and connect the yo-yos using a whipstitch. Tie off the thread with a double knot after stitching.

Continue to connect the yo-yos together using the whipstitch to make the body of the quilt.

Tips & Warnings
You can make yo-yos in a variety of sizes to add contrast and dimension to your quilt.
Using a variety of fabrics can give your quilt a colorful touch.
You can use a DVD, large plastic lid or a bowl to create your circle pattern.
Fabric scraps and old clothes can be used for this project.
