How to Make a Hair Clip & Brooch in One

Just as a brooch allows you to dress up any top or coat, a hair clip allows you to dress up any hair style, and of course you have the option to construct one of these accessories to suit any outfit in your closet rather than purchasing one from an accessory boutique. The next time you create your own hair clips or brooches, create them to be twice as useful by making combination hair clips and brooches. So, when you don't want to wear a brooch, but you still want to sport that stylish accessory, clip it in your hair instead, and vice versa.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace a quarter on a sheet of felt using tailor's chalk.

    • 2

Cut out the traced circle, a 1-by-10-inch strip, a 3-inch circle and a 2 1/2-inch circle from the felt. Don't worry making the larger two circles perfectly round or the exact right size. The important part is having two circles of approximately those sizes with one slightly smaller than the other.

    • 3

Trim the 1-by-10-inch strip in a wavy pattern along one of the long edges. Trim the ends of the strip so they are rounded.

    • 4

Draw a line of hot glue along the straight edge of the strip. Quickly roll the strip before the glue cools to form the bud of the flower for the clip brooch.

    • 5

Cut the 2 1/2-inch circle into a four-petal flower shape that takes up the whole circle. Cut the 3-inch circle into a five-petal flower shape that takes up that whole circle.

    • 6

Glue the four-petal flower on top of the five-petal flower with a dot of hot glue. Attach the bud of the flower over the center of the four-petal flower with hot glue.

    • 7

Attach the pin back to the top half of the quarter-sized circle with hot glue. Attach the alligator clip to the bottom half on the same side. Let the glue cool for 2 minutes.

    • 8

Glue the felt flower to the other side of the quarter-sized felt circle with a generous amount of hot glue. Let the glue cool for 2 minutes before wearing the brooch hair clip.
