How to Make a Stroke Around an Object in InDesign

InDesign CS5 is an advanced page design and production software included in Adobe Creative Suite. This industry-standard software uses boxes and frames to insert graphics or type elements on the page which you can frame with a stroke or rule for emphasis. When you first place an image or text box on the page InDesign assumes you don't want a line around the element. The Control panel provides a one-click procedure for the page designer to add a stroke to an object.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the InDesign document that has the object you want to frame with a stroke. Click with the Selection tool (black arrow) to apply a stroke to the frame or box around the object; click with the Direct Selection tool (white arrow) to apply a stroke to the actual path of the object.

Select "Window" from the main menu. Scroll down to "Stroke" to bring up the Stroke panel.
Click the up or down arrow to select a stroke weight. Alternatively, type a value in the text field.

Select the line style by clicking on the Line menu below the stroke weight text field. Double-click on the stroke color window to add your preferred color to the stroke.
