How to Get Long-Lasting Nail Polish

Things You'll Need
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton swabs
- Nail clippers
- Emery board
- Orange stick
- Base coat
- Nail polish
- Top coat

Remove any existing nail polish, and clean hands and nails with soap and water to remove any dirt or oils from the nail surface. A clean nail surface improves product adherence.

Trim nails to the desired length and shape with an emery board. Push cuticles back gently with an orange stick if necessary.

Apply a clear base coat to nails. Base coats fill in any ridges in the nail, providing a smooth surface for applying nail polish. Allow base coat to dry completely before applying nail polish.

Apply a thin coat of nail polish to each nail. To avoid over-application, try to apply nail polish in three stripes across the nail, beginning in the center and then moving to either side. Allow polish to dry for several minutes.

Repeat with a second coat of nail polish. Allow nails to dry completely before moving to the next step.

Apply a top coat to each nail. Allow top coat to dry completely before touching anything.

Reapply top coat every other day to extend the life of your nail polish.
