How to Grow Feather Moss

Feather moss has a shiny, green surface.

Feather moss, also known as fern or wood moss, has small leafy fronds with pointy, triangular tips. Many species of moss are dark green and lush, while this variety is a bright green shade. Its exotic look makes it an interesting addition to a garden and creates an unusual ground cover. Things You'll Need

• Potting soil
• Water
• Plank

Instructions

1. Choose a planting location in dense to partial shade. Pick a spot that has protection from the sun but allows filtered light through.

2. Test the soil in which you wish to plant the moss with a pH testing kit. Soil must have a pH level between 5.0 and 6.0. Remove any debris such as leaves and branches from the planting area.

3. Dampen the planting area with water. Wet the soil, but don't make it muddy. Press the wet soil down, using a wooden plank to compact it.

4. Place the moss square or section onto the prepared soil. Press the moss down using the palm of your hand. Continue until all the moss is planted.

5. Water the moss every other day when natural precipitation has not occurred. Moss is not drought-tolerant.
