How to Change an iTunes Account on the iPad Without Losing Movies

Linking your iPad to your iTunes account is an integral part of the setup process if you want to be able to listen to your music, watch movies and TV shows or purchase apps. However, things can get a little complicated if you have more than one iTunes account or share your iPad with another person. If you want to change iTunes accounts on your iPad without losing movies and other content, log in and log out on your iPad and not in iTunes.

Instructions

    • 1

Tap the “iTunes” app icon on your iPad.

    • 2

Scroll to the bottom of the Welcome page and then tap the “Apple ID” button with your current iTunes account.

    • 3

Tap “Sign Out.” This redirects you to the Welcome page again.

    • 4

Scroll to the bottom of the page again and then tap “Sign In.”

    • 5

      Tap “Use Existing Apple ID.”

    • 6

Enter the Apple ID email address and password for another iTunes account you want to use and then tap “OK.” You can now make purchases on your iPad with the second account, and your movies should still be in the Videos app.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to continuously use your iPad with multiple iTunes accounts without losing your movies, enable the manual management features. This lets you manually import music and videos by dragging and dropping them into your iPad when connected to iTunes. You can turn this option on in your Summary window when you connect your iPad to your computer.

  • To update apps or download subscriptions purchased with different accounts, log in to the proper account for each update. If you press the “Update All” button, you will be prompted to enter passwords -- and possibly payment information -- for all the accounts.
