How to Make an Organza Flower Brooch
Create a beautiful fashion accessory from a little bit of organza fabric or ribbon and a plain brooch pin. Create the flower from layers of organza and then embellish the brooch with an iridescent pearl bead center. The decorative fabric jewelry makes a perfect accessory to wear with a special dress, or you can wear the organza brooch with a pair of jeans and a blouse to dress up the outfit a little bit.

1
Cut eight circles of organza fabric. Start with a circle with a 5-inch diameter for a large flower brooch. Make each circle incrementally smaller by 1/2 inch. The circles do not need to be perfectly shaped. Uneven edges make a more interesting-looking flower.
-
2
Light a candle. Hold one of the organza circles firmly with a pair of pliers. Rotate the edges of the circle through the flame. As you turn the circle, the edges will curl up from the heat. Do not keep the edges of the circle in the flame for more than a brief second. Afterward, if the edges are not curled enough, repeat the step to curl the edges more. Repeat this with each circle.

3
Lay the largest circle on a clean surface and lay the next largest circle in the center. The curled edges of each should be facing upward. Continue to pile the circles onto the larger circles until all are stacked on the pile.
-
4
Squeeze the center of the pile of circles together and sew two stitches through the center to hold the shape and create the flower.
-
5
Thread the needle back into the center of the flower from the underside. Slide a pearl bead onto the needle and insert the needle back through the fabric. Repeat this three or four more times to give the flower a pearl center.
-
6
Spread a little bit of hot glue onto the back of the brooch pin and press it against the back of the flower.
-
7
Sew stitches through the holes in the brooch to firmly attach it to the organza flower.

Tips & Warnings
Be careful when working with the candle. Keep your fingers away from the flame. This is not a suitable project for young or unsupervised children.
