DIY Ribbon Double Headband
Double-strand headbands define and add flair to any hair style and they can be paired with up or down 'dos. These headbands can also dress up a prom or bridal hairstyle. You can make many headbands out of ribbon from craft stores. Experiment by making headbands out of different colors and textures, like lacy or metallic ribbon. When wearing your headband, tease the back portions to add some height to your hairstyle.
Things You'll Need
- 36 inches of ribbon, less than 1-inch wide
- Scissors
- 3 1/2 inches of braided elastic, 3/8 inch wide or larger
- Needle and thread
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut the ribbon in half so you have two 18-inch-long pieces.
-
2
Place one piece of the ribbon on your work surface and position the second piece on top with the ends lined up. Position the elastic so it covers about 3/4 inch of one set of ends.
-
-
3
Stitch the elastic to the ends of the ribbon with a sturdy stitch. Some ribbon can fray, so go over your stitching multiple times to be sure it stays.
-
4
Lift the elastic and bend it over to the other ends of the ribbons and stitch them together. The elastic should overlap the second set of ends by about 3/4 inch again and be sure your ribbons or elastic are not twisted before sewing.

Tips & Warnings
You can cover the stitched parts by hot gluing ribbon to the headband if your hair is not long enough to cover it.
Also consider making this headband with narrow lace ribbon.
