How to Reassemble a Lancet

Lancet makes the Lancet leaf drainer, a patented device that cleans out clogged gutter drains. Using this device involves pulling a handle a few times, crushing the leaves in your gutter's downspout. Assembling the Lancet leaf drainer is a bit more complicated, though. If you don't feel comfortable working on or at the height of your roof, get a professional to do it for you. Besides this aspect, the process is straightforward and shouldn't take you more than an hour. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Snake the wire of the Lancet through the two holes of the rectangular disloding plate. The Lancet works by pulling on the wire with a handle. The wire jostles the disloding plate up and down, breaking up leaves that are stuck in the gutter.

    • 2

Plug in your power drill to an extension cord. Bring it with you along with the Lancet, it's hardware, and a rag up a ladder to the top of the downspout.

    • 3

Connect the spring to the hole on the top of the Lancet. The top of the Lancet has perpendicular ridges to the rest of the body.

    • 4

Snake the wire through the downspout. Coat the wire with a gel, such as lip balm, to ensure it does not catch in the downspout.

    • 5

Place the rag in the mouth of the downspout so that pieces don't fall in while you are working.

    • 6

Insert the provided screw to the bit on the end of your power drill. Insert the screw through the hook on the top of the spring. Drill the screw through the gutter and into the roof directly above the downspout.

    • 7

Press the back of the downspout backward with your screwdriver to ensure the Lancet does not catch.

    • 8

Climb down from your ladder. Drill a hole in your downspout at chest level with the three-quarter-inch metal drill bit.

    • 9

Insert the hook of a coat hanger through the hole to fish out the Lancet's wire. Paste silicone around the hole. Insert the Lancet wire through the center hole of the handle plate.

    • 10

Place the handle plate over the hole. Drill one-eight-inch holes into the downspout through the holes in the handle plate. Attach the handle plate to the downspout by inserting rivets with the rivet gun into the holes you made.

    • 11

Insert the end of the wire through the center hole in the provided handle. Tie a double-knot on the wire. Cut off the end of the wire. The Lancet is installed. When the downspout is clogged, pulled the handle three or more times straight down to unclog it.
