How to Delete the Cache on a Mac Terminal
Every time you browse a Web page or access folders on a server, your Mac stores information on your hard drive in a reserved area known as the cache. Clearing the cache erases the history files on your system and prevents this information from being accessed by third-party software. You can use a Mac Terminal command to clear the cache. The Terminal utility provides administrator access to a number of internal functions handled by the Mac's operating system.
