How to Make Something Not Desaturated in GIMP

“Saturation” is a measurement of the intensity of color in an image. A highly saturated image contains bright, vivid colors; a fully desaturated image contains only shades of gray. Use the "Hue-Saturation" feature in GIMP, a free image-editing program, to increase the saturation of an image. The more saturation you apply to the image in GIMP, the more intense its color palette will become.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch GIMP. Click "File" and then click "Open." Navigate to the image and double-click on it to open it.

    • 2

Click the "Color" menu and select "Hue-Saturation." GIMP opens the Hue-Saturation control window.

    • 3

Click the "Master" button. This tells GIMP to adjust the saturation of all of the colors in the image. If you only want to increase the saturation of a specific color, click the radio button next to its icon.

    • 4

Click and drag the "Saturation" slider to the right. As you increase the saturation, GIMP updates the image in the main window.

    • 5

Click "OK" to apply the new saturation setting to the image.

Tips & Warnings

  • To reverse the effect of GIMP's "Desaturate" command, click "Edit" and select "Undo Desaturate."
