How to Change the Drum Bearing in a Frigidaire Affinity Dryer

David Clair

The Affinity line of automatic dryers by Frigidaire includes gas and electrical models. The models range from standard to ultra capacity. Each model includes a drum bearing inside the dryer cabinet that keeps the tumbler drum stable and rotating properly when it is running. A broken drum bearing prevents the dryer from running properly and can produce a squeaking noise when the drum is rotating.

Step 1

Unplug the power cord. Insert a putty knife between the front and top panel. Press the putty knife blade into the internal spring clips to unlock them.

Step 2

Lift the top panel to rest on its rear hinges.

Step 3

Remove the screws near the top of the cabinet connecting the front panel to the Frigidaire Affinity dryer.

Step 4

Unplug the wire connector from the door switch. Lift the front panel off the cabinet.

Step 5

Slide the belt off of the motor pulley. Lift the drum up and out through the front of the dryer cabinet.

Step 6

Remove the screws holding the drum bearing assembly to the back of the inside dryer cabinet. Lift the bearing assembly out of the dryer.

Step 7

Insert the new drum bearing assembly into the dryer. Install the screws that hold it in place.

Step 8

Reverse the disassembly steps to put the Frigidaire Affinity dryer back together.
