Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of white vinegar. Add 1 cup of cream of tartar and stir until it is dissolved into the vinegar.

    • 2

Dip a stiff-bristled scrub brush into the solution. Scrub the floor with a circular motion, using heavy pressure to break up the wax coating. Start in the corner of the room farthest from the door. Scrub in 3-by-3-foot sections, wiping the section with a damp towel before moving on to the next section.

    • 3

Repeat the scrubbing and wiping until you have scrubbed the entire floor.

    • 4

Dump out the bucket, rinse it, and fill it with clean water. Dip a mop in the water and wring it out. Go over the floor with the damp mop to rinse the floor. Let it air-dry before applying new wax.
