How to Begin Ballet as an Adult
Students of all ages can take up ballet performance and instruction. While ballet is sometimes seen as something that is started in childhood and adolescence, it is possible to start as an adult. What is important is to keep an open mind and enjoy the dancing. Taking the proper steps to prepare will make the transition easier.

1
Find a suitable studio. Reflect on the reasons why you are starting ballet, how much of a commitment you are willing to make and what level of performance you hope to achieve. Look at a variety of studios and find the one that suits your needs.

2
Get in shape. If you are out of shape, start doing low-impact aerobic workouts before starting lessons and continue to stay in shape once you've started dancing. This may not be necessary if the class is designed to be at a level to get dancers into shape. Make sure to inform your teacher of health problems or injuries you have when starting ballet.

Find out what the studio's dress code is and get appropriate clothes. Many classes require students to wear leotards and tights. You may also want to get warm-up clothes such as leggings, sweatshirts and sweatpants.
